Chamonix for the Freeride Worldtour

Jan 24, 2011 in WINTER NEWS

After a few dry weeks in the european alps the expectations for a good first freerideworldtour stop were low. anyway when there is an invitation to chamonix i am more than stoked to take the opportunity to visit this impressive epicenter of big mountain sports in the alps.
The riding around Chamonix did prove that there was hardly any rippable snow left beside a few pockets in not wind effected high north faces.
so it was even more amazing that the organisation managed to find a good venue to hold the first stop of the season. The face they did choose for us is located on the italian side of Mont Blanc in the Courmayeur area. here some impressions:

Jan 04, 2011 in WINTER NEWS

Freeride season is on and freeride comps around the globe are coming up. in this little vid i try to explain how i  choose a line on the example of my last years run on the Freeride Worldtour in Chamonix.

Chamonix Freeride Worldtour stop 1

To be part of a  freeride worldtour competition in chamonix, the freeride, off piste, alpine mekka of the alps and of the world is most probably what it is for the surfing community  to surf at a world tour stop on oahu, hawaii.

The mountains around are spectacular big and if i have the chance i always go and take the cable car up the aiguille du midi and do a run down the famous valle blanche.

Aguille du midi, the cable car up to the top station
the ride down the valle blanche is alpine sightseeing deluxe
valle blanche, just ten years ago the glacier level was up here!
